Lastly, it's shown that Tora can 'change' Poppi's settings. It shows both that Tora sees Poppi as her own person, as valuable for her skills (more valuable than him) and that they both have genuine affection for each other. If you choose the right dialogue they bring in Poppi to ask her about it and she's devastated at the idea that Tora would even think about abandoning her. One of the crucial scenes regarding both Poppi and Tora is the heart to heart where Tora considers leaving the group because he's totally aware that they don't need him - Poppi is the one who actually puts in the work, she's the useful one. Thus Poppi is, fundamentally, a combat robot, and a ridiculously effective one. He really, truly wanted to be a driver to help fight all the injustice you see in Gormott at the start of the game, and he wanted to complete his family legacy for his dead father and grandfather. And it's important to note that while he gave Poppi a 'maid mode', having a maid was never his driving ambition in creating her. It's not intentional on his part, he just has no common sense. Him 'discovering' Morag is a woman is a great example of this. He's an otaku, but he's aware that it's kinda shameful, and he has a good heart under it all, he's just clueless most of the time. More seriously, Tora's character is all about him becoming a more normal, social guy after a very strange upbringing and a family tragedy. This is most clearly shown when Poppi attains her final, full grown form and starts carrying Tora around like a stuffed doll despite his obvious discomfort and protestations - he has no control over her, really. The whole joke with them is that Tora creates Poppi thinking she can be his own personal maid as well as a blade but it backfires and the relationship dynamics are pretty much turned on their head from moment one - she's clearly in charge, she's clearly more intelligent, and she takes comic pot-shots at him constantly. I liked Tora and Poppi, they were by far my two favourite characters, because they were the two who brought humour to the game.
